About Your Organization:
UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital has partnered with our sister facility, UofL Health – Peace Hospital to create a voluntary inpatient medical detox unit at Mary & Elizabeth Hospital to care for patients with substance use disorders. The unit features 12 private patient rooms, but has the capacity to expand to care for 25 patients.
In addition to assisting patients through the detox process, the unit also offers:
• Therapy groups led by licensed therapists who work with discharge planning and aftercare services to ensure that patients maintain adherence to their treatment plans to achieve long-term sobriety and increased well-being.
• Recovery-based therapy, some of which may incorporate music and art components, is available to patients as is guided meditation.
Staff caring for patients on both the medical behavioral health unit and the medical detox unit have experience in behavioral health as well as medical/surgical nursing.
At discharge, each patient will work with a therapist/case manager to develop a continuing care plan for intensive outpatient, residential or outpatient therapy. Community resources will also be provided so that patients have the support and tools needed in their recovery.

About Your Organization:
The hospital recently opened a new 33-bed medical behavioral health unit. The 16,688 square feet unit offers a wide range of services aimed at treating patients who have psychiatric disorders such as bipolar disorder psychosis, depression and schizophrenia as well as medical disorders.

This integrated approach is especially important because many psychiatric hospitals may not be equipped to manage complex or ongoing medical issues. Patients with both medical and behavioral health needs often face barriers to getting comprehensive care, sometimes resulting in delayed treatment or frequent transfers between facilities.

At UofL Health – Mary & Elizabeth Hospital, the Medical Behavioral Health unit is uniquely designed to eliminate those barriers. Here, patients can receive both medical and psychiatric care in one location, improving continuity of care. This is particularly beneficial for adult and geriatric patients, who often experience a combination of physical and mental health challenges.

The medical behavioral health unit cares for adult and geriatric patients. Behavioral health services include:
• Acute crisis stabilization
• Group therapy
• Behavior management
• Medical management
• Treatment of acute psychiatric symptoms

We serve students and families in transition who have been displaced from their home due to hardship. Students that qualify for the McKinney-Vento Program lack a fixed, regular and adequate nighttime residence and once identified they are protected by federal law. This includes the right to remain at their school of origin during the duration of homelessness and/or the right to enroll in school immediately regardless of if they have all the required enrollment documents. Students that qualify for McKinney-Vento services can have various housing situations such as: doubled up with another family/friend, staying in a motel or shelter, living in a campground or vehicle, live in a home that is inadequate (i.e. housing that is unsafe, unhealthy or lacking essential amenities) and unaccompanied youth (i.e. children living without a parent/guardian in a homeless situation).

Operation Restore–Outreach Thrift–Pathway Home–Healing Together–White Flag Shelter

Operation Restore: Veterans are significantly underserved in our community. While they experience the same challenges, their military service impacts the way that they interact with the civilian world. We recognize that they can be more successful and empowered through programs that are specifically tailored for veterans.

Outreach Thrift: The store is a touch point in the community
to identify needs and provide resources. Mark 12 partners with the school
system and agencies such as Multi-Purpose Community Action & CPS to provide vouchers for those in need of clothing and household goods. This system allows us an opportunity to identify other needs and provide additional assistance.

Pathway Home: Through mentoring and case management, Pathway Home serves those at risk of becoming homeless. Participants receive support with problem solving and life skills necessary to maintain sustainable housing. We also provide transitional housing and transportation (formerly known as Room In the Inn) to those who are employed and are committed to improving their lives.

Healing Together: There is an overwhelming need for mental health services. Through our partnership with UofL Peace Hospital, Bullitt County libraries are mental health “safe spaces”. We also offer Gospel-Centered groups targeting areas such as grief, anger, anxiety, conflict, substance use, and children experiencing loss.

White Flag Shelter:
The White Flag Shelter is being hosted at 1st Baptist Shepherdsville and is open from 8pm-8am.  The address is 254 S. Buckman Street  in Shepherdsville.  The entrance is in the back of the building.  The point of contact is Neil Scifres.
